About

Welcome to my marathon blog. I hope to post at least once a week, to keep all my supporters and sponsors informed of my progress. I hope you enjoy reading it.

Why am I running a marathon? Good question. It’s just been something I’ve always wanted to do but I now wish I’d decided to do it earlier.

I entered the ballot for the 2017 London Marathon as soon as it opened on the 2nd May 2016. To be honest I never really expected to get a place but on the 11th October I received an email and magazine saying I was successful. I couldn’t believe it. I was in shock, then panic and then joy.

This was my chance to fulfil my dreams of running a marathon and also to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

Please visit my Virgin Money Giving page to find out my reasons for supporting this very worthwhile charity.

When I mentioned my wish to run a marathon several years ago to my father, he said, “You’re mad, but do it. Why not?” Unfortunately my father passed away in September 2015 but I hope he would have been pleased to know that I decided to go for it.

So here I am, with the support of my wonderful husband Alan, training 3 times a week, in good weather and bad, and hoping to raise lots of money for Prostate Cancer UK and fulfil my dream of running a marathon.

  1. Love your blog Marilyn!
Thank you for sending me the retails. I loved meeting you at the London marathon meet the experts on Saturday.
I think you are amazingly determined to run the marathon as your dream! You are an inspiration to me and I was thinking of you while doing my run last night, and how your plan was based on time. It had me thinking of my plan in more ways than just in miles.
Good luck with this weeks training sessions… remember the little goals help the big goal to be easier!!!
